Upstream Field Development and Planning Workshop
The workshop provides a comprehensive overview of the evaluation and assessment of a discovered and appraised hydrocarbon accumulation, which will lead to a successful proposal to develop the field.
Motivated geoscientists and petroleum engineers, production technologists and to a lesser extent well engineers in their first three years of employment or first assignment.
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to:
- Understand geological complexities in terms of depositional environment for the two main rock fabrics, i.e. sandstone and limestone, flow units, faults / compartments, reservoir (in)homogeneity
- Understand hydrocarbon in-place volume within a range of uncertainty
- Understand how rock (routine and SCAL) and fluid (PVT) properties are analyzed
- Define fluid contacts, densities, reservoir pressure (RFT)
- Estimate well productivity based on production tests, DST, net pay and rock properties
- Understand of aquifer size and connectivity to the reservoir and expected drive mechanism
- Calculate well inflow performance, required completion design and perforation strategy
- Estimate oil recovery factor
- Determine optimal spacing, field deliverability and field life
- Understand facilities and environmental issues
- Understand the basics of project economics
- Develop a field development strategy, long term field development planning and options, and uncertainty management
- Gather data to reduce uncertainties, reservoir management and surveillance plans
- Work together as a team
- Execute planning and time management.
The workshop will have six modules, spread over a period of four weeks, i.e.
- Reservoir Identification (2 days)
- Reservoir Description (3 days)
- Reservoir Characterization (5 days)
- Reservoir Planning and Development (5 days)
- Field Development Plan proposal (3 days)
- Compilation and Presentation (2 days)
The participants will work in four teams in competition with each other in order to create contest, which will enhance individual efforts. During the fourth week the teams could, if appropriate, be split up into groups to address the objectives of the final presentation of a Full Field Development Plan Proposal.
